Description
Summary:In 1715, Lyons’s opposition to Law’s bank and paper money system is based on two arguments. The first one concerns the opposition to the bank itself. The second one contests the very settlement in Lyons. Lyons’s professional organizations send reports expressing their worries about this settlement in Lyons, reports actually written by the so-called prévôt des marchands et des échevins de la ville de Lyon, representative of the people of Lyons. Therefore, these reports, acts of defiance against the power of Law, creator of the Royal Bank and later contrôleur général des finances, are acts of resistance against the royal power.
