Additionally, a new witness of the first book of his hagiographical compilation in Castilian is described. This manuscript is a unique witness in some sections, and for other parts it is essential for the critical edition of the text. The article gathers the information that shows the literary relation between Bernardo de Brihuega and Alfonso X, and it is explained how the work by Brihuega was used in the Sixth Part of the General estoria. Finally, we examine the fragment on Noah’s Ark present in one of the manuscripts that transmits the work by Brihuega, an edition of which is presented as an appendix. Its connections with the First Part of the General estoria open the possibility that Bernardo de Brihuega prepared this text as a draft for the redaction of the Alfonsine universal history. |
