description Within France, the Picardie region stands out when considering negative schooling indi- cators and looking in particular at the high proportion of pupils leaving the school system without any qualification. Even within the Amiens district, the situation is heterogeneous and strong differences can be observed between catchment areas. In some of these areas, for instance the Oise department, pupils register more often in the general secondary schools than in the technically orientated ones. In other catchment areas like Santerre Somme, pupils often look for a more practical training. Additionally, once they have committed themselves into one track or the other, depending on which catchment area the pupils are from, they don’t have the same opportunities to reach the final year and pass the final exam, the general one or the more practical one.
