Pirogov, Moscow
This publication is devoted to one of the most urgent gynecological problems — premenstrual syndrome (PMS). The information is presented in the form of an analytical review of international studies on etiopathogenesis, classification, diagnosis, clinic and treatment of PMS. According to the generally accepted definition, PMS is a pathological complex of psychological (anxiety, irritability, loss of self-confidence, mood changes, etc.) and physical (mastalgia, mastodonia, propensity to edema, etc.) symptoms which are regularly manifested in the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle, as rule, 2–10 days before the onset of menstruation, and negatively affect the daily activities. In the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Edition, PMS is classified as an independent nosological unit (code N 94.3) «Premenstrual tension syndrome». Currently, PMS is a medical and social problem, due to its negative impact not only on the health status and quality of life of women, but also on academic performance in educational institutions, work capacity, which, in turn, causes economic losses. PMS in some countries is a legal defense against criminal liability. In France, for example, PMS is recognized as a form of legal insanity, and in England —
a mitigating factor in criminal liability.

Key words: PMS, premenstrual syndrome, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, Mastodynon, vitex agnus castus, medicinal herbal preparation, quality of life.
For citation: Unanyan A.L., Sidorova I.S., Kuzenkova N.N. et al.
