Summary:Romanian foreign policy during Great War aimed to achieve the national interest, namely to receive the Romanian territories from the Dual Monarchy of AustriaHungary. Romanian Kingdom acted as a rational actor in international relations, declaring its neutrality in the summer of the year 1914. The Romanian government was aware of the poor endowing of the army concerning war materials and ammunitions. Ion I.C Brătianu attempted also to obtain certain guarantees concerning the obtainment of the territories under Austro-Hungarian rule. So he decided to delay the moment of intervention in the war as long as possible. But the neutrality was only a temporary one due to the geographical position of the country and the evolution of the war. For a while Romania played the role of the holder of balance of power in the Balkan area. The president of the Romanian Council of ministers, Ion I. C. Brătianu enjoyed a real monopoly on the decisions of foreign policy. He will adopt a bandwagoning behavior, deciding to enter World War I, alongside with Entente at the moment he considered optimal.
