description Objetive; determine the problem-solving association for self-care of Type 2 diabetes (food, exercise and medications), self-care of DT2, perceived social support, years of diagnosis and schooling. Descriptive correlational study in 238 adults with diabetes. The patients were randomly selected. To measure the variables of interest, select the scale of problem solving in diabetes self-care, social support in patients with diabetes, diabetes self-care activities. Anthropometric measurements (weight, height, waist circumference) were measured to measure the participant's body composition and biochemistry (A1C). The resolution of problems in self-care is conditioned by age and social support, but not by schooling or years of diagnosis. A mayor score on the subscale resolves effective problems in self-care of DT2 greater self-care in food. However, it was the subscale of self-care in medicines that obtained the highest score. It is important that nursing involves the family in supporting patient care. It seems that patients believe that the medication should control the disease.
