| Summary: | Voices of dissent,whether verbal or written, have the historical antecedents of being symptomatic of governments characterized by oppressive policies and brutal force. In both ancient and contemporary climes, resistance poetry assumed different meanings in different creative contexts and academic disciplines. We have witnessed dissident activities transformed beyond linguistics, into armed struggle, against the individual or
persons in power. During the Julio-Claudian dynasty, particularly, the Neronian Principate engendered poetics of resistance, due to its repressive policies. This paper attempts to examine the cadence of resistance poetry during this period relative to the prosopography of Emperor Nero (AD 54-65).
