description Cerebrovascular disease affects brain arteries by means of occlusion or rupture. Both medium and small sized arteries could be affected. Small vessel occlusion produces lacunar infarcts and small vessel rupture produces intracerebral hemorrhage. Depending on the location and size of the lesion and comorbidity, a wide range of clinical presentation is observed, thus leading to different outcomes. Therapy is mainly aimed at avoiding complications and preventing recurrences.
