| description | The paper aims to shed light on the creation and development of the Main General Staff, as the most important institution for the peacetime development of the Serbian Army and its preparation for the war. The establishment of the general staff profession and the Main General Staff of the Serbian Army in the second half of the 19th century was carried out according to models of similar institutions in other European armies. The Main General Staff of the Serbian Army was concerned with the study of the territory of the Balkan Peninsula and the enemy capability assessment, which eventually resulted in the mobilization and build-up plans of the Serbian Army. The paper was written based on materials of the Military Archives in Belgrade, the Archives of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, and educational and military literature found in the Center for Military-Scientific Documentation and Information in Belgrade. |
