| description | Abstract. Theology understanding often leads to violence against others. Theology is human answer to God in the struggle of his or her faith with the world around, while violence is an act committed by a group of people against other. The question arises: can theology, which emphasizes love and kindness, be misused to carry out violence to achieve a specific purpose? The purpose of this article was to analyze acts of violence by certain groups in the name of religion using historic-theological approach. The author’s thesis is that theology does not only show love and hospitality facet but also ruthless face by using the texts of the scriptures as a basis for committing violence against others.
Abstrak. Pemahaman teologi seringkali menyebabkan timbulnya tindakan-tindakan kekerasan terhadap sesama. Teologi merupakan jawaban manusia kepada Tuhan dalam pergumulan imannya dengan dunia sekitar, sementara kekerasan merupakan tindakan yang dilakukan oleh sekelompok orang terhadap sesama. Timbul pertanyaan: apakah teologi, yang menekankan cinta kasih dan keramahan, dapat disalahgunakan untuk melakukan kekerasan demi mewujudkan maksud tertentu? Tujuan artikel ini adalah menganalisis tindakan-tindakan kekerasan oleh kelompok tertentu yang mengatasnamakan agama dengan menggunakan pendekatan historis-teologis. Tesis penulis adalah teologi tidak hanya menampilkan wajah cinta kasih dan keramahan melainkan juga menampilkan wajah yang kejam dengan menggunakan teks-teks kitab suci sebagai dasar untuk melakukan kekerasan terhadap sesama. |
