The article discusses the question of modernizing the legal definition of the concept of blackmail. The author puts into discussion the controversies and the solutions regarding the quality improving of the legislative definition of the notion “blackmail”. The definition of the notion “blackmail” provided by the article 189 of the Criminal Code of Republic of Moldova is analyzed element by element. The author pleads for the substantial simplification of the process of interpreting and applying the mentioned penal norm. The recommendation brought by the author would contribute to the equal application of responsibility for the corresponding penal deed.
