Summary:We reported herein the synthesis, structure determination and emission properties of a cubic molecular Cd(II) coordination cluster whose faces are composed of 12-MC-4 metallacrown units built up from Cd<sup>2+</sup> and 2-methylmercaptobenzohydroxamic acid (<b>L<sup>mmbHA</sup></b>), resulting in [Cd<sup>II</sup><sub>14</sub>(<b>L<sup>mmbHA</sup></b>)<sub>12</sub>(µ<sub>6</sub>−O)(DMF)<sub>10</sub>](ClO<sub>4</sub>)<sub>2</sub>·3H<sub>2</sub>O. The polynuclear complex obtained was characterised by single crystal X-ray diffraction at 193 K. The bulk sample was also analysed by elemental analysis. UV-Vis and emission spectra of the complex were measured in chloroform, as well as the emission spectra of the ligand for comparison. The results of the emission studies revealed that both the ligand and the complex are weakly emissive.
