He remained loyal to the phlogiston theory until the end of his life. Parallel to his industrial activities he devoted much time to chemistry teaching and research in many fields. He wrote books on chemistry and pharmacy that went through many editions and translations. He is usually remembered by his hydrometer, the first one to be built with reproducible scales. |
