| description | Scientific research on parks and on the gardens of chateaux is based on the in situ survey of these parks and gardens in their present state, and on the critical analysis of various archival sources, amongst which the most important in France is the cadastral survey. Examined for the Loire-Atlantique and Maine-et-Loire departments, this source offers the possibility of an analysis based on a notion of exhaustivity rather than exemplarity, and this at two moments in time: the date of the completion of the first, Napoleonic cadastral survey in the first half of the 19th century and the completion of the contemporary cadastral survey. The present article presents the methodological aspects of this type of study, close to an inventory, and presents some of its results. |
