Summary: | The article analyzes the prospects for the development of the Common foreign, security and defense policy of the EU in the context of the changed EU’s foreign policy leadership, in particular in connection with Josep Borrel as the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission (HP/VP). F. Mogherini, leaving her post of the head of the EU External Action Service (EEAS), highlighted the main achievements during her work in 2014–2019, related to CFSP putting to a strategic track. J. Borrell should take up this baton, including by strengthening foreign policy coordination within the Commission, called «geopolitical» by its new President, Ursula von der Leyen. The article evaluates the program settings of the HP/VP J. Barrell, the tasks assigned to him and the stated priorities as viewed through a prism of the CFSP «strategic» continuity and prospects, as well as progress towards a strategic autonomy of the EU.
