| Summary: | The third Earl of los Vélez, Don Pedro Fajardo Hernández de Córdoba, was a very important figure during the middle years of the reign of Philip II of Spain. In spite of this, he has not been studied in depth by historians, more concerned about the military actions of his ancestors and the intrigues of his ally Antonio Pérez. As that noble man only lived forty nine years, although he managed quickly to reach the Court, he only remained there from 1572 to 1578. Don Pedro is also very important person in the history of the Vélez household, as he was not a warrior, and he was the first appointed to the Court and lived there. Politics and family, family and politics are necessary tools to meet the biography of this last chief of the ‘Ebolista’ faction, on which further research is needed. Nevertheless, we can get closer to him through the courtly networks he made part of, and the numerous letters he interchanged with King Philip II. Pedro Fajardo was definitely one of the most powerful men of his time.
