Description
Summary:In this article we aim to describe and analyze the creation of a global landscape of precarious spaces where Brazilian favelas, African refugee’ camps and European encampments for migrants come together. Beyond the comparative scope, we foreground the importance of the politics of separation through the repeated creation of limits and “outer spaces” (urban heterotopias), as one of the aspects of urban and global contemporary governance. Yet these same places turn out to be refuges, lengthily establishing and transforming themselves, offering an alternative urban solution.
