Some researchers have studied its social and therapeutic benefits. However, there is still much to know regarding the (self-) learning strategies used by their singers –most of whom do not have formal musical instruction– and how they relate to the music they sing. The present paper focuses on 54 amateur singers who currently participate in different mixed choirs in various Spanish-speaking countries, interpreting choral-orchestral works. This research seeks to identify the methods they use to learn these works, the significance that the score acquires for them, their concept of musical training, the reasons that led them to participate in a choir, and the presence and importance of the classical repertoire in their daily life. |
