Summary:This paper uses CiteSpace R6.1 bibliometric software to construct a knowledge map of coastal building research, analyses research authors, institutions, countries, keyword co-occurrence and keyword clustering, visualises and analyses the relevant literature collected in WOS, summarises the current state of research, research hotspots and research frontiers in the field, and provides a theoretical basis and decision support for relevant research. Specifically, this paper analyses 2067 records from 1988 to 2023. The results show that the impacts of climate change on coastal buildings are a major focus of research, but there are methodological and data limitations that encourage cross-national and interdisciplinary collaboration to address complex issues. Research trends include adaptive strategies, shoreline response and machine learning, and the need to integrate technical, engineering, social, economic, environmental and ethical dimensions to achieve sustainable and inclusive development.
