Description
Summary:Published posthumously, the notes from the Egyptian journey (1869) by Eugène Fromentin are an interesting example of travel writing in which the painter’s notes are intertwined with his remarks on the country and its inhabitants. The present paper analyses the image of the Other emerging from the text. Even though this is not the author’s main subject, a portrait of Egyptians is created and contributes, as in Fromentin’s paintings, to his vision of the Oriental world.
