Description
Summary:The problem of reproductive health has a special, not only medical but also social significance. The female reproductive system is the most common site of HIV transmission in women, with viral remodeling complicating clinical and morphological diagnosis. Despite its anatomical location, the ovary is the site of exposure to pathogens in the female reproductive system. Increasing the life expectancy of HIV-infected women requires reproductive health studies in this category of patients. In connection with the above purpose of this study was to identify morpho-functional features of the ovaries in HIV-infected persons. Object and methods. We selected 50 cases of sectional material of women with confirmed by Western blot HIV infection (study group). The age of women ranged from 24 to 47 years, with an average of 33.9 years. A comparison group of 50 women of the same age was formed. Morphometric study have been performed after preparation of histological slides with investigation of structure of the ovaries. Results. In the course of the performed work it was established that the ovaries in HIV infection are reduced in size with a large bumpy surface. Morphometric examination indicates that the thickness of the epithelium changed from 12.37±1.49 to 8.13±1.36 x10-6 m, the thickness of the protein shell of the ovary from 27.54±1.43 to 38.88±1.31 x10-6 m, the thickness of the cortical substance of the ovary from 2132.08±19.67 to 1449.77±20.73 x10-6 m, the thickness of the medullar substance of the ovary from 856.40±14.87 to 1281.23±16.94 x10-6 m, diameter of the primordial follicle from 39.32±1.92 to 34.12±1.08 x 10-6 m; decreased the number of primary, secondary and tertiary follicles; the number of atretic follicles increased, and the relative volume of connective tissue changed from 69.71±5.44 to 89.81±8.12%. Conclusions. Morpho-functional features of the ovaries in HIV-infected is characterized by acceleration of involutional processes with the development of severe atrophy and sclerosis of the organ, characterized by a decrease in organ size, decrease in epithelial thickness and thickening of the protein shell, decrease in the number of primordial, primary, secondary, tertiary follicles, an increase in the number of artretic follicles, thinning of the cortical layer and a pronounced growth of connective tissue.
