Summary:In the contemporary Francophone literary space, the Belgian author of Algerian origin Malika Madi is a leading figure among the exponents of second-generation migrant writing, born out of the identity and cultural debate of ‘belgitude’. It must be said that the migratory discourse is being explored by writers who were born in or moved to their parents’ host country. Among the texts on immigration from Maghreb, Madi’s work tackles, with new writing methods, issues concerning realities that clearly and objectively outline the contemporaneity of women, still subjected to prejudices that limit their right to speak. This paper will analyse Nuit d’Encre pour Farah (2000), the writer’s first novel, in which the subjective dimension of the speaker will be highlighted through the analysis of the experience lived by the novel’s protagonist, thanks to the analytical investigation of the different enunciative strategies. As for literary discourse in relation to linguistic issues, reference will be made to personal experiences that the author pours into the behaviour and stances of the protagonist, all with the aim of highlighting the importance of a biographical reading, which outlines a different discursive image of gender identity, related to a new cultural and geographical space.
