| description | During the second half of the eighteenth century, illustrated editions of Don Quixote began to emerge in Spain. Its editors, printers and booksellers offered the publications to different Hispanic periodicals. The following article describes how the New Spain press publicized Miguel de Cervantes' remarkable history. To discover it, the Hemeroteca Nacional Digital de México (HNDM) provided advertisements about the singular knight. This information materialized in the Gazeta de México, «Encargos» section between 1784 to 1805. During this period three editions of the work as well as two imitations were sold. Through the ads in the publication, publishers and printers from different editions are distinguished, and the booksellers who distributed Don Quixote in the final years of New Spain are identified. |
