Summary:When we talk about the Russian economy, we inevitably think to a great military power, to oil and gas. With all the natural resources that it dispose, the Russian economy did not have a steady upward trend in the world economy. The causes are the economic and political system, but also the mentality of the population which has a major role in the economic, social and political evolution of a country. It is true that in the world economy it is normal to change the power poles hierarchy, but in recent years Russia has faced a multitude of problems generated by the country's failure to adapt to the current requirements of the international economy. The paper proposes an integrate analysis of Russian economy by means of data and statistics provided by international and national statistics institutions. The purpose of the paper is to evaluate the current situation of Russian economy and to find the reasons of present evolution. Despite the unfavorable situation, Russia remains an important player in the world economy and that is why it is good to understand the reasons for the current evolution, in order to forecast the future evolution.
