Description
Summary:In this study the nobility family in the Modern Age is analyzed through the case of an Asturian example: the Valdés of Gijón. It aims to observe both the complexity of its structure as well as the different familiar strategies that the nobility used to carry out to develop its economic and political power and increase its social influence. Aspects like preconceived marriage practices, inheritance transmission strategies (such as the ‘mayorazgo’ and the creation of familiar networks), made possible the social promotion of this privileged group and allowed its social reproduction during the Ancient Regime.
