| Summary: | Uninhabited islands have an important role in supporting the socio-economic and ecological development in Zhoushan City. To promote the refined management and sustainability for uninhabited islands, this paper analyzed the underlying problems of the utilization and conservation in Zhoushan City, and proposed the principles of categorized protection for uninhabited islands. Moreover, management plans considering different island functions of national interest, nature reserves, special marine protection area, other important protection, restricted development and reserved zones were developed, thereby formulating protective measures based on 9 island use types such as islands for tourism and entertainment and 6 utilizing ways such as the native use, which had been proved to be scientific and practical.
