Description
Summary:The hospital as unique organisational unit is proposed, based on the theory of the existence o f a dual authority system within the hospital. The place of the ward sister in the hospital is explored with emphasis on her co-ordinating function. This function of the nurse is not limited to nursing activities alone but refers in particular to her role as co-ordinator of patient care. If the nurse is to retain this special position in the hospital organisation a more structured approach towards teaching of administrative skills is advocated to enable the nurse to create a therapeutic milieu in the ward.
