description Even though Prague was an experimental university where natural law had been discussed and established as a chair earlier than in Vienna, the survival of the new discipline was threatened by shortsighted personnel policies. The competition for the new professor in 1758 managed to find the new holder and secure the division of the discipline between a specialized chair of public law, held by Franz Lothar Schrodt, and a chair of natural law, held by Josef Anton Schuster. It also helped to silence the Jesuit Josef Jurain who sought to compete with the faculty of law. The 1760s saw then a series of new works on natural law by the new professors. The article deals with the archival documents concerning the competition of 1758 and analyzes the contents of the printed publications. Schrodt advanced a very absolutist conception of public law.
