Description
Summary:Background: High urinary tract infection incidence in hospitalized patients in intensive care unit (ICU) indicates the necessity of more care for these patients. This study was done to investigate the frequency of urinary tract infection in ICU patients. Methods: In this a cross-sectional study, all the patients hospitalized from March 2009 to June 2010 in AlZahra hospital, Isfahan, were enrolled. Information about age, sex, duration of hospitalization, duration of catheterization, and urine culture result and antibiogram were collected and analyzed under frequency tests. Finding: From overall 315 patients, 15.9% had a positive urine culture. The results showed that with increasing age, duration of hospitalization, and duration of catheterization, frequency of urinary tract infections also increased; E-coli was the most common cause of this infection. Conclusion: Considering these results, we can say that it is better to do catheterization in ICU patients with real indications to reduce urinary tract infections.
