description | This article aims to discuss the daily slave labor between 1871 and 1888, with the main scenario being the city of Olinda, the former capital of the province of Pernambuco. Based on the data found in the Slave Classification List of 1876, it was possible to trace important aspects of the slave 'work world', especially in occupational activities, which were grouped into four categories: indoors, agriculture and handicrafts. The text also seeks to articulate such data to more general questions of the period, considering the context of slave labor crisis, internal trafficking and emancipationism, as well as the noble attempt to institute a labor discipline that often clashed with the 'rhythms' and 'times' of daily slavery. |
