Summary:Introduction: Breast cancer is one of the most frequent neoplasms worldwide. Knowledge about this pathology and breast self-examination need to be promoted in order to achieve early diagnosis. Methods: a non-observational, quasi-experimental study, before-after without control group, was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of a community intervention on breast cancer in women Family Medical Clinic #9 belonging to the polyclinic #2 “Ángel Ortiz Vázquez” in 2021. The study universe consisted of 134 women over 28 years of age and a study sample of 72 women was selected through non-probabilistic sampling. Results: in terms of identified needs, 71 patients (98. 6%) expressed the need to know about breast cancer risk factors. Prior to the education programmer, women with inadequate knowledge of breast cancer prevention predominated. (77. 8%), breast self-examination (68. 1%) and risk factors (81. 9%). After the intervention, they increased to a sufficient number: in the first case to 88. 9 per cent, in the second and third cases to 100 per cent. Conclusions: The educational intervention was effective in showing an increase in the level of knowledge about breast self-examination, breast cancer prevention and risk factors.
