Summary:West Nile virus may cause a wide range of clinical presentations ranging from asymptomatic cases to fatal outcomes. Since it has been seen in Turkey and neighboring areas in recent years, it has attracted increased attention. The virus can cause West Nile fever and West Nile neuroinvasive disease, which includes meningitis, encephalitis and acute flaccid paralysis. Diagnosis is made by virus culture, polymerase chain reaction and ELISA. There is no specific therapy for West Nile virus infection and the principal therapy is mainly symptomatic.
