Summary:Mining engineering education in Iran started with the establishment of University of Tehran in 1934. After the revolution of 1979, the planning of higher education programs was centralized and the present BSc program of mining engineering was introduced in 1997. This paper presents some deficiencies of the existing program and introduces a revised version, which is designed based on the national needs and international trends. In this program, a new "BSc exploration engineering" is introduced. In the fourth year of this program, students can choose one of the clusters of courses in mining exploration, petroleum exploration, groundwater exploration or geo-hazards investigation.
