Summary:Purpose. The imperative for the changed paradigm of higher education after Russia’s joining to the Bologna process in 2003 was the transition to the student-centered learning, as well as the development and implementation of the competence-based approach. The authors aim to substantiate the reasonability of implementing the ENQA standard for the student-centered learning in the foreign language study at the Institute of international management and education of Krasnoyarsk state agrarian university. Methods. The basis of the research is formed by general theoretical and empirical research methods, such as analysis and synthesis of theoretical experience available in psychological and pedagogical literature, as well as questionnaires, included observation and experiment. Results. During the study, as a result of the literature analysis, questioning of students of 1–4 courses, direct observation of their activities in the classroom and indirect observation of their independent work, the conclusion is made about the reasonability of the implementation of the student-centered approach in the foreign language study, which facilitates the increase of motivation, the development of students’ independence. The specific results of the standard practical application by the Department of Business foreign language are presented. Practical implications of the results. The results of the study may be of interest to teachers, heads of the foreign languages departments, implementing the provisions of the Bologna Declaration, seeking to ensure and to guarantee the quality of higher education.
