description This paper analyses the possibilities offered by the work of Alfonso de Palencia, considering the current standards of digital academic edition. Next, it presents a project in gestation about the Vita Illustrium Virorum, that aims to edit the biographies written in Latin by Leonardo Bruni, Guarino Veronese and Donato Acciaiuoli, the Italian humanists who collaborated in the translation of the Parallel lives by Plutarch from Greek to Latin, work later translated by Palencia to Spanish. Besides, it suggests that the choice of the technologies employed to carry out a digital project involves a series of philosophical and ethical implications.
