description The present article is devoted to presenting and theoretically exploring a certain category of event, the “typical atypical event” – “typical ‘atypical’ event” for Fishman (1978), Surette (1992) and Young (2002); “case eccezionale” for Grossi (1985). It compiles a collection of the main theoretical propositions that had as main orientation the attempt to deepen the understanding of this “typical atypical”, namely: the violent nature, the fact of impacting the collective, the public opinion and the legitimacy of the institutions, the connection with the political systems, the questions of territory and the problematic fields that make it emerge. The fact that these events arouse the attention of the media, claim some journalistic treatment and involve Journalism in its conflict are other aspects that particularize this category of event.
