Description
Summary:6 voices in 10 minutes: Strategies for weight loss in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus Postoperative follow-up In the late 1980s, researchers began to report that patients experienced improvement and/or  remission in type 2 diabetes (T2D) after undergoing bariatric surgery (BS).  A meta-analysis, which included 19 (mostly observational) studies and 4070 patients, reported an overall rate of 78% of resolution in T2D after the BS.  However, most of these studies were retrospective with a follow-up of only 1-3 years on average. The SOS study, with more than 15 years of follow-up, showed a T2D remission rate of 72% in two years but a drop of 36% in 10 years. In other words, T2D recurrence or relapse is a likely situation in the evolution of patients. Thus, it is very important to emphasize the need for controls in the long-term follow-up of operated patients.
