Summary:The article, based on the analyzed scientific literature and ethnographic materials collected from residents of the Barda region, provides information on the urban population of Barda, its structure, social composition and family relationships. The processes of gradual separation of large families are investigated, and on the basis of this - the formation of new families. Studies have shown that the family played and plays an important role in shaping the moral qualities of the child. The article discusses issues related to the role of parents, elders and family members in raising children. Examples are given from public pedagogy, which are used by family members in the process of education. Here we briefly touched on issues related to family education, along with the socialization of children and the role of state institutions in turning the child into an individual. In particular, the role of senior family members (grandparents) in instilling knowledge about rituals and customs, using traditional methods of upbringing is noted. The role of large, large families in the socialization of the individual is emphasized. The historical interconnections between generations are traced. A large role in the upbringing of various genres of folklore is shown.
