description Les silences de Porto Santo, an island theme novel, presents a dual island with a strong symbolic representation. The immense and endless sea on the beach of Porto Santo marks the silence of various characters, alive or dead. The island takes a status of poetic or politic metaphor (Fougère, 1995) and the words acquire a third meaning (Bachelard, 1957), in a way that an expressed thought comes into union with the past and the experiences of the characters. Thus, the geographical area and the text are related. The insular narrative is characterized by an effort to make fit space and time. There is a structural homology between the micro-space of the island and the micro-narrative. The geophysical islander joins the isolate narrative with the aim of showing the link between the shape of a space and the time of a story. This article aims to study the narratological problems placed by the integration and framework of the micro-island story in the novel frame.
