Summary:Due to the increase in the population of Iranian elders and a variety of anxieties, especially death anxiety in old age, it is essential to investigate the factors relative to spiritual health and meaning in life and prevent death anxiety disorder among elders. Therefore, the present study aimed to study the relationship of spiritual health and meaning of life with death anxiety in elderly people of the Telecommunication Retirement Center in Brojerd. A descriptive-correlational method was used in this study. All male and female retirees in government agencies in Borojerd were considered as study subjects, among all retirees from telecommunication companies were selected. 300 people (215 males and 85 females) were chosen through simple multistage random sampling. Three questionnaires were used in the present study to collect data: Spiritual Health developed by Yolotzzin and Ellison, the purpose of life by Crambaf and Maholik, and death anxiety by Templer. Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis to analyze the data. Findings suggested a significant and inverse relationship between religious health and observable anxiety, and existence health with obvious anxiety and depression. There was a significant inverse relationship between satisfaction with life and obvious anxiety, vitality with anxiety and depression, and positive and negative emotions with obvious anxiety and depression. Also, findings from multiple regression tests showed that spiritual health and the meaning of life could be predictors of death anxiety. Furthermore, findings presented that growth and reinforcement of spiritual health and meaning of life should be considered as appropriate ways to prevent and reduce psychological trauma, problems, death anxiety and improve psychological health among elderly.
