Summary:Nowadays old age has become a target for an endless number of practices supported by the medical discourse of“life quality” and “best age”. In contradiction with the ascetic ways from the Past, this bioascesis establishes newvalues for the elderly based on hygienic rules, schemes of time occupation and ideal models of subject based onphysical performance, culminating on an unbridled pursuit for better physical shape, more longevity, prolongationof youth, etc. The purpose of this text is to present evidence of how this discourse was established and how it hasregulated practices geared towards the elderly. It also intends to present the ways to resist the culture of fitnesswithin groups geared towards bioascetic practices.
