Summary:Objectives:The effectiveness and the improvement period of the vestibular training exercises and the canalith repositioning maneuvers were compared.Methods:The present study consists of 40 patients ranging in age from 23 to 75. The sample group was classified into two different subgroups. The patients of first group were treated with vestibular exercises and the patients of the second group were treated with canalith repositioning maneuvers.Results:In the group treated with vestibular exercises, the mean age was 42.3. The patients of this group were treated with antivertigo drugs for 4 days and were asked to practice the Cawthorne exercises once in a day. In the fallow-ups that were done within 19 days, it was observed that all symptoms were improved and the Hallpike Test was negative. In the group treated with canalith repositioning maneuvers, the mean age was 46.5. The total improvement was accomplished by an average of 1.25 maneuver. After the maneuver, the patients were asked to use soft collars for 48 hours in order to limit their neck movements. For this group, the improvement was seen in an average of 2.6 days.Conclusion:Total improvement was accomplished for both groups however a delay was seen in improvement in the group treated with vestibular training exercises.
