Description
Summary:The main topic of this anonymous 1545 dialogue is the Sevile funeral ceremony for the unexpected death of Mary of Portugal, the first wife of Philip II when he was still a prince. The literary features of this Renaissance work, as well as its connections with Hapsburgs public funerals, have until now remained unexplored in depth. This dialogue does not only confirm the solemnity of the event; thanks to its construction of characters and the use of conversational mimesis, its author manages to create a new discursive space related to the role of the Court as a nucleus for citizenship and social order.
