Summary:Given the differences in the pharmacological and clinical effects of antidepressants, criteria for their differential choice in the treatment of depression associated with comorbid medical illnesses are suggested. Based on these criteria and general rules of clinical pharmacology, principles of antidepressant treatment in patients with comorbid medical illnesses aimed to optimize the therapeutic process and to prevent treatment resistance are developed.
