Description
Summary:Environment disasters are a growing concern today. To control and mitigate their effects, energy transition has been presented as a solution able to tackle environmental degradation and its deep and complex consequences on humanity whilst supporting a continuous economic prosperity. Those miraculous effects acclaimed and encouraged by different economical and academically entities are however questionable considering their potential effects in terms of sustainability uncovering a potential hidden aspect of the energy transition. Indeed, it is acclaimed by multiple actors and increasingly included in public policies. It uses mechanisms and tools that want to be more sustainable, such as renewable energies and the adoption of darker everyday behaviors (transport, housing, etc.). However, the desire to fight against climate change and the development of more sustainable processes should not obscure the hidden face of renewable energies. The rise of these must not hide the impact on different spheres: social, economic, environmental and health. The deployment of renewable energy projects is justified by environmental, strategic and energy considerations. However, the latter are far from being energy neutral and create debate and even conflict. Indeed, because of the profound transformations (in particular, of the landscape, symbolism and identity), the economic consequences for tourist and agricultural activities and the threats to the state of health of local residents, opposition has arisen (PASQUALETTI et al, 2002 ).The objective of this article is to shed lights around the harmful repercussions that certain mechanisms can have on diverse dimensions (e.g., health, ecology, society…).
