description An analysis of church documents of early centuries AC indicates special significance of atonement in the teachings and life of the Church. Surviving texts present Church teachings which regard atonement as necessary, contain 'catalogues' of sins, speak of absolution and consider an important issue of practising atonement in relation to salvation. Also, the analysed documents reveal the practice of atonement according to the Church, which comprises: confession of sins, mutual forgiveness and reconciliation, fraternal admonition, alms, fasting and prayer.
