description Objective:It is thought that psychosocial risks cause sleep problems, and sleep quality is one of the important mediators in the relationship with diseases. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between psychosocial risks and sleep disorders in health care workers.Materials and Methods:This is a cross-sectional study. The study was conducted in a university hospital between August 2014 and November 2015. The study population included all health workers in the university hospital (1664 people). Fourteen departments of the hospital were selected using the cluster sampling method. The aim was to reach 390 workers in all. As a result of this study, 226 health care workers were reached (58%) and a questionnaire was applied by faceto- face interviews. Sleepiness was measured with the Epworth scale and psychosocial risks were measured with the Swedish Workload-Control-Support scale. Results:It was observed that while 30.1% of the participants had sleepiness, 23.5% worked in high-stress jobs and 46.0% had low social support. While there was no significant relationship between job control and sleepiness (p>0.05), high workload and low social support were significantly associated with sleepiness (p<0.05). When adjusted for age and sex, increased work stress increases sleepiness risk by 3.78 (95% CI: 1.25 11.43) fold. When adjusted for age, sex and social support, the relationship between work stress and sleepiness was not significant (2.83 [95% CI: 0.88 9.09]).Conclusion:In our study, it was observed that sleep disturbance occurred more frequently in cases of work stress and work control with low work control and this relationship disappeared due to the effect of social support.
