Description
Summary:Many geological, environmental, and archaeological pieces of evidence in the Egyptian Western Desert point to the important role that the desert played in the cultural development along the Nile, especially during the Late Prehistoric Period. The process began with the drying up of the desert in c. 5,000 BCE and ended with the establishment of the ancient Egyptian state. The Chufu region witnesses countless numbers of petroglyphs, including anthropomorphic female representations that form an extremely large and intriguing group. This article explores these female motifs in the region by applying statistical, spatial distribution, stylistic, and contextual analyses.
