Summary: | Despite the importance of sound in the player’s experience, this aspect of video games is still understudied in game theories. Starting with an overview of the few existing works on the topic, we identify the contributions but also the limits of narrative and film theories in the study of game audio. Due to the playful aspect of the medium, we propose a complementary theoretical framework in order to guide future work in this expanding field of research. |
