Description
Summary:Emerging collective mobilizations, urban riots and spontaneous concentrations seem to indicate that the scenario of social conflict and the sense of violence that goes along with them have different dimensions nowadays. Thus, the present paper aims to analyse the connections that might exist between violence and what is here called collective experiences of conflict. Taking into account discussions on violence, conflict, collective actions and the “definition of a situation”, the author discusses the extent to which violence is an important element in the construction of the social meaning of contemporary collective actions, as well as in the establishment of a specific and situated scenario of social conflictiveness.
